When Can You Enroll
Medicare allows you to join a MA Plan when you first become eligible for Medicare, or between Nov 15 – Dec 31 of each year (your coverage begins Jan 1 of the following year).
Switching into a New Plan
If you are enrolled in a plan by Dec 31, you have from Jan 1 - March 31 to make one of the following changes:
- if you’re in a drug plan, you may switch to a MA Plan with drug coverage;
- if you’re in a MA Plan with drug coverage, you may switch to another plan that includes drug coverage;
- if you’re in a plan without drug coverage, you may switch to another plan without drug coverage.
BE CAREFUL: you may only switch once. However, you may also switch plans in certain circumstances—for
example: if you move out the plan’s service area or if you have both Medicare and Medicaid. Enrollment dates may differ for SNPs and MSAs.
